Getting Married in an Approved Venue
Your choice of civil wedding venue includes not only the local Register Office but also a variety of properties such as hotels, castles and stately homes. Each property has been inspected by representatives from the local authority and is considered to be suitable for the holding of civil ceremonies.
The ceremony itself will be conducted by staff from the local Register Office. For those couples who wish to be married in an approved venue the choice is being extended all the time. Details of properties which have been approved are listed in the List of Venues in Devon, Plymouth and Torbay.

If you decide to be married in an approved venue you should first contact the venue to ensure that the date you are thinking about is available and that the cost is acceptable to you and your partner.
Then you should contact the Superintendent Registrar responsible for the area in which the venue is located to check that his or her colleagues are also available for the date and time you would like.
An attendance fee, payable at least two weeks in advance of the ceremony, will be required. This fee, which the Superintendent Registrar will be able to confirm at the time of your enquiry, is in addition to the statutory fee in respect of your notice of marriage.
Once a firm arrangement has been made the Superintendent Registrar will advise you of the formalities which are required.
